Camellia Woodworks

Founded in Birmingham, AL, Camellia Woodworks takes on the name of Alabama’s State Flower to establish its southern roots and enriched style. While all commissions aim to meet the customer’s desire, Camellia works with traditional joinery to ensure heirloom quality furniture. These handcrafted pieces are not utilitarian but beautiful works of art that are also practical.

Aaron Jaillet

My name is Aaron Jaillet, and I am one of the faces behind Camellia Woodworks. I grew up around woodworking, and took an interest in it from the time I was young. My dad is a master carpenter and has been vital in my progression as a woodworker. He helped me learn the traditional methods of joinery and building furniture that was made to last. The furniture I built with him growing up, sits in my house today. I graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Mathematics and Economics and a Masters degree in Applied Economics. I have been in the banking industry for 10 years, but my love of woodworking has always been there.

After buying a house in Birmingham, Alabama, I realized the need for some of the skills I had learned growing up. I got married in 2015, and my wife showed me a picture of a tv stand she wanted for our house. I just remember thinking, “I should build this.” So I did. We moved into a new house a few years later, and all the rooms needed more furniture. So, I started planning out and building piece by piece. First another dining room table, then a kitchen remodel, then built-ins for the living room. I realized that this passion was something I wanted to continue and share with others which has led me to Camellia Woodworks. I love building dining room tables because of the complex joinery, and different styles that each and every table can take on.

My name is Patrick Norton and I’ve been working alongside Aaron to create Camellia Woodworks. I am a self-taught furniture maker and woodworker with a passion and interest in creating heirloom pieces that are both functional and beautiful. I first got into woodworking to create some small wedding favors for my groomsmen when I got married to my wonderful wife, Sara Beth, in 2018. I started small with customized oak coaster sets, and quickly fell in love with the craft. Since then I have continued to develop in my woodwork with custom banquet seating built-ins, coffee and accent tables, bookshelves, outdoor sofas, and multiple kitchen remodels. Each of these projects has grown both my skill and my love for the craft as I continue refining my own style and design in creating furniture and custom casework. While woodworking is one of my many passions, it has primarily been a tangible and creative outlet alongside my work providing professional mental health counseling at my private practice, Apollo Counseling. I love getting the opportunity to help people, whether that is through providing support and counseling through difficult mental health and relationship concerns, or if it is by providing the perfect piece of furniture designed to meet their specific needs and style.
